If you are pregnant or nursing a child, everything that goes into your body also affects the baby. Everything from spicy food to drugs ends up in the placenta and your milk. When you get a tattoo (or a piercing) you are taking the risk of possible allergic reactions or infection that could potentially be passed on to your child. Your immune system is lowered and you become less able to protect the baby if your body is too busy trying to fight off an infection. Although the actual risk of this happening is small, why take the chance? To protect unborn children, nursing mothers and themselves, most studios have made it a policy not to perform tattoos or piercings on anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. It just isn't worth the risk when you can just wait a few extra months and then get the tattoo or piercing you desire.

There is a risk of infection when getting a tattoo. If the mother is infected or has an allergic reaction to the ink, that can be passed down to the baby. Also, if you are nursing a newborn you shouldn't get a tattoo because the risk of infection through breastfeeding.

I think it is because of the risk of infection or hepatitius. If you want to get a tatoo you should take someone with you who knows about this so that they can ask the tatoo parlor the correct questions about how they use needles and dispose of them and how the sterilize everything. Also if you really want a tatoo it can always wait until after the baby is born. It would lower the risk of your baby getting sick from something that you did while pregnant. Good Luck

Bcause of the risk of infection from Hepatitis and HIV. Reputable tatto parlors use new needles for every customer, but the practice of tattooing still has a bad rep from the few who don't.

because its not recommended, there are many risks and infections that could possibly happen and a pregnant woman should not risk their babies life over a tattoo.

I think because you are risking a blood infection if the artists' tools aren't sterile. Plus, I'm guessing the dye is absorbed in the skin somewhat as well, and you don't want to introduce any chemicals into the bloodstream during pregnancy.

Risk of hepatitis. Just wait until AFTER the baby comes! Then you can get a tattoo.

you actually can get tattoos while pregnant BUT extra precaution must take place because its not the ink that will harm you, its the bacteria on the unclean needle that will. the major risk is contracting hepatitis from a dirty needle. if this happens, there's a chance u'd pass it on to the baby or if u treat it, the antibiotics can harm the baby. so just make sure that the parlor sterilizes the needles used or opens a new one =)

you can. but if you get a dirty needle it can hurt your unborn child. They also suggest that you don't do it while your pregnant because of ink poisoning. I have three, and love them. But waited until after my kids were born first. Just to be safe.
