Camels are known as the ship of the desert because of they have a lot of interesting features. Here are those which I have mentioned below:-

1) Camels need only once to drink their fill of water. After that, they don't need another gulp for one week.

2) You must have seen that all Camels have humps on their back. Those humps are nothing but storages where all their body fat is stored. During long days in the journey through deserts, they get their energy from them.

3) Camels have special pads under their feet. Unlike a Horse feet pad, which can get easily destroyed and needs to be nailed with shoes. Camels feet pad are specially designed by mother nature so that they can walk and run free and fast on deserts, better than any animal or human.

4) The eye-lid of a Camel is unique as well. It actually has two eye-lids. An outer one, which you can see from your naked eye, and another thin and filament like eye-lid which is transperant. When a sand storm occurs, Camels can keeps their eyes wide open because of that secondary transperant eye-lid.

Before the time of gasoline engines, most merchandise was transported by sailing ships. Merchandise on the desert was moved by camels, so they were called the ships of the desert.

(A) Do we agree that the sand dunes in the desert can be compared to the water of the sea? A nice analogy. You can't realy survive for long on you're own in the middle of the sea of in the middle of the desert.
If we agree on this, then:
(B) Do we agree that a ship is slow but allows you to travel in the middle of the ocean, where you would otherwise die swimming, trying to keep afloat.
(C) If yes, then i guess that keeping that nice analogy in mind, the camel allows you to (slowly) travel in the middle of the desert, and survive (while moving), instead of dying in the sand.

I hope you now see the similarity.

Because they are used by humans to travel in the deserts. They have the ability to store more than 50 liters of water in their stomach by which they quench their thirsty during desert travelings.
