Yes, with a caveat. The drive won't be bootable, so you will need a bootdisk. Once you're booted, just go to the folder and run setup.exe, and you'll be off to the races.

Make sure to copy everything on the installation CD to one folder (there should be several hundred cabs, and a few exes), and make sure the folder's name isn't 'Windows' (try mesetup or something like that). You don't need to copy the 'add-ons' folder.

Incidentally, this method ends up being faster than installing from a CD.

I am going add this having seen the other answers - you can do this with any version of windows. For 2K and XP, you just need to copy the i386 folder on the setup CD to the hard drive, and use a boot disk.

hm. not quite understanding your grammer but i think you are asking if you can copy your windows directory so that you can install windows onto another computer? If thats your question, then no. You need the Windows cd to install. What you want to do is just copying. Copy and install is different. =(

you can just remove the hard drive which has the CAB files for your windows ME and plug it in to the computer that you want to install the operating system. run the setup file on your CAB files and then it would run the setup for your windows. just make sure that you save the operating system on your local disk not the hard-drive that you just transferred from the other computer.

To install something on a computer, you need the files that the computer will need, and you also need a little installation program that sets everything up for you. These programs' names always end in .exe (which stands for execution file). Chances are, you'll need the installation cd.

you can't install an OS from computer's harddrive.
You need to have a CD-Rom on a machine.
Also, I'd suggest to move to XP, ME is too old, and isn't good for internet. Plus, it's not even supported by MS any more.

It depends on the version of Windows.

XP requires that you boot from the installation media.
You may need to download & create the boot diskettes for the Windows installation.

Please visit this site for info on how to create the diskettes:
