Is this person on any blood thinners for a heart or blood pressure problem? That's one of the most common side effects.

Or it could just be that some people's blood vessels get more delicate as they age.

Bruising is common in older folk. Not because the skin is thin, but because the muscle under the skin no longer has the strength it did when the person was younger. This muscle used to absorb the shocks to the body. With no protective muscle layer, the blood vessels below the skin are more susceptible to getting hurt - thus the bruising.

A doctor told my mother, when she was 70+, that older people's skin just gets so thin that it does not protect the blood vessles as it did when they were younger, so that is why they bruise so much easier. Just a natural part of aging. Of course, some medications can cause this too, esecially blood-thinners.

Yes it has to do with age. When we get older our skin gets dry, thin and fragile and any slight bump or scratch can cause
major bruises. Some people take anti-coagulation drugs that cause the skin to be thin like a paper so they bruise, and if the bruises are blue and are numerous, he or she better see a doctor it might have to do with an overdose and the doctor needs to see and check it.
