Hello;
I just bought a PS3 that was purchased from Best Buy on launch day. Meaning I have 3 days left of a return period. I'm not a hardcore gamer, so I intend to play maybe 1-2 hours max a day on it and maybe actually use it more for movies. Here are my questions:
1) What common problems/issues should I look for that would make me need to return the ps3?
1) Sony has a 1-yr warranty on the ps3, I hear they are horrible and should get a third party plan...true?
2) I can still buy the best buy service/replacement plan. Around $60-100 for 2 (maybe 4) years. Is it worth it, or should i just treat it as another gimmick to get more money from me.
3) The other option was IF anything went wrong, taking the ps3 to costco. I hear they are very lenient with their returns, even if you don't have a receipt (for store credit/exchanges)...True?

Any/All help is greatly appreciated..Thank You.

About the Warrantee...
=================
Yes. Get it. Especially when you are talking about the first batch of Sony gaming systems.

Problems Encountered in the Past...
===========================
Circa 1995 -- When we purchased the Playstation the CDROM drive gave us lots of read errors; ended up getting the system replaced.

Circa 2002 -- Purchased four Playstation 2 (I have six sons and a daughter) three had overheating problems; all three were replaced; two of the replacements had DVD-ROM issues; Replaced one with an XBox; replace the other for a third PS2; no other problems occurred after that.

2006 -- Don't know yet. The boys keep selling the ones that they get their hands on; ask again in March 2007; should have answers by then.

1.) I've read a lot of positive things about PS3, and hardly anything about glitches or defects. BUT the truth of the matter is when you buy something on launch there is usually going to be some bug or defect that wasn't fixed by testing before launch. That's why I'm going to wait for another batch in about six months and hopefully a lower price tag. As far as warranties go, I personally think X-Box has the worst, but it wouldn't surprise me if Sony had bad warranty policies too.

2.) After making a $600.00 investment on a PS3, you might want to look into that Best Buy service plan. It seems to me to be a good idea if you plan on using your ps3 everyday.

3.) Costco wouldn't be able to help - not without a receipt from costco.

Another option is to sell that ps3 on Ebay. You could make a profit off your lightly used ps3 and then wait for a better batch of ps3's to be released. I know I'm waiting for the release of the ps3 ratchet and clank game before I spend any money on a ps3.

Yes you should buy the warranty because you just spent 500-600$ on a overly priced gaming console. Plus its sony so somethings bound to go wrong with it, considering you bought it at Launch also. in short be safe and get the warranty, or sell it on ebay for a quick buck. good luck.

I somewhat have the fat (previous) type. The fan makes an demanding quantity of noise. I consistently puzzled in the event that they solved that subject interior the recent PS3 slender type. so some distance as i be attentive to, a contemporary replace to the PS3 has bumped off the flexibility to function an open Linux OS. As for the PS2 video games, I somewhat have a ton of them and that i in no way play them because of the fact the PS3 video games are some distance extra proper. this is painful to play the previous video games on a top high quality equipment. are you able to even purchase the fat type type new. which would be my concern. i could in basic terms % to purchase it new.

Defiantly Get the PSP ANY time you buy from Best Buy get the PSP IT IS WORTH IT trust me my dad works on this stuff for best buy ALWAYS ALWAYS buy the PSP! (If you don't wanna take my advice you can pay the price when it breaks down.) I wouldn't take it to anywhere other then the place you bought it also do not Mod or do anything to it if you ahve a warrenty because then they can Void it if you think somthing needs to be changed or fixed and you have bought the PSP Bring it in DO NOT try and fix it yourself
