Actually yes, they are told what the categories will be but they have to take it upon themselves to study everything they can possibly find on those categories and hope they found the right stuff.

Yes. That one guy that won all those billion times (dont remember his name) said they were given the catagories the night before.

no, they generally have to know everything. but, they probably study by watching old jeop. shows.
