Bermuda (also known as The Bermuda Islands and formerly as The Somers Isles) is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom in the North Atlantic Ocean. Located off the east coast of the United States, it is situated around 640 miles (1030 km) northeast of Florida and about 667 miles (1073 km) east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina (see Geography section below). It is the oldest remaining British overseas territory, settled by England a century before the Acts of Union and two centuries before the creation of the United Kingdom.
