WASHINGTON - Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson (news, bio, voting record) was in critical condition recovering from emergency brain surgery Thursday, creating political drama over whether his illness could cost Democrats newly won control of the Senate.

Maybe Im crazy, but I find it terrible that the man is in critical condition after emergency brain surgery and the drama is centered around the fact that Democrats could lose a seat in the senate.

Can you be sure that the Republicans didn't drug this man to cause his problem? Can you be sure that some other weapon wasn't used on him?

I listened to the recording and it sounded like he was having a relatively normal "senior moment". Subversives could have used a special frequency tone to disrupt his thought process (yes, I'm talking about new technological warfare that is being tested) or a specific DNA targeted drug to induce symptoms. It will be interesting to see what the medical field gives as a reason for emergency brain surgery. But then again, we shouldn't be paranoid about the Republican quest for power, should we?

It's probable that he suffered a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack) or had a blood clot on the brain. These things can come up without warning and immediate treatment is paramount to survival. Let's pray for him and let's keep a close eye on Congress. Maybe we can even investigate what he ate, who was around him, and what his contacts were to ensure that this wasn't induced. The other question would be Why Senator Johnson and not someone else? That calls for investigating his positions on issues.

P.S. I am not a Democrat or a Republican. I believe in truth, justice and loyalty and vote that way.

I absolutely agree. Right now should a time when our sympathies go out to the family and our best hope directed at successful recovery. Politics should not even be a blip on the horizon. What disturbs me even more though are the number of posts I have already read today proposing that his illness is a Republican conspiracy. I don't know about anyone else, but I just find this to be the ultimate insult to Mr. Johnson and his family.

Most news agencies has used that as a side bar to the story. But it could make a big difference to whom will be in charge. What we all need to do regardless of our political views is wish the Sen. a complete recovery, rather he is able to return to the Senate or not.

Yes, it's tragic, but A lot of people go through this. He wouldn't be the first. It's not even that rare. What is rare is that he is a Senator who helps make up a 51-49 majority.

politicians do that in any case. its a power stuggle, it all began with the invention of career politicians. This is nothing new and will never change.

look at what the ethics commitee found out how the dems kept the info of Foley until they could shop the story to make a politcal aspect out of it. any politician will use anything to push their side

That is where we are in this country. More concerned about political implications than with people. It's a shame that this country is going to implode, cause it is the greatest country the earth has ever known.

Yeah, it is terrible, but I know Repubs. would be just as concerned if they were going to lose control. I'm sorry, but that does matter...if not people wouldn't spend millions of dollars to get in those seats in the first place. I am sorry for his illness though.

The fact is, you don't know that man. If a stranger dies or is incapacitated, it has no impact on your life. We read or see stories everyday about bad things happening to people we don't know, and we don't think twice about it. However, determining which party gains control of the Congress has a HUGE imapct on all of our lives. From the taxes we pay, to the wars we are forced to fight in, it matters a great deal on each and everyone of us. That's why the focus is where it is.

I really feel for his family and my prayers go out to them. This isn't the time of year to have anyone sick or perhaps even pass away.
