Both bodies of water influence and produce weather systems that move across the Ohio river valley area. Hurricanes that roar in the Gulf of Mexico often continue on a northward trek, dumping rain and spinning off twisters the entire way. Huge storm systems that originated in the Pacific just recently covered the northwest, the Rockies and the Midwest with snow then marched across New York and the Northeast on it's eastbound route.
Often systems from both bodies of water collide in the Midwest, generating terrible storm conditions. Strong warm weather systems coming out of the south can buffet or push Pacific systems north, while weak systems allow blasts of polar air to push down along with the jet stream and freeze the Florida oranges.
The temperature of the Pacific is a good indicator of what type of weather will be headed our way. Droughts are common when the Pacific temps are high and the El ninos are present -a trend we've been in for 25 years. Recently, studies show the Pacific is cooling and will be under the influence of La ninas for the next 25 years.
Don't forget to throw the Great Lakes into the mix. They can create their own mini weather conditions.

When the warm moist air from the gulf collides with the cool air comming in from the Pacific west, it creates tornadoes many times.

Ohio is a state that is part of tornado alley. It is centrally located so that the warm air from the south and cool air from the west meet and turn out tornadoes.
