Actually, the French were right when they pulled out of Vietnam long before we did too- on 7 May 1954 and the French public and government had had enough. At the Geneva Conference the French government negotiated a peace agreement with the Viet Minh which allowed the French to leave Indochina and granted all three of its colonies, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam their independence. The US, on the other hand, started withdrawing 15 January 1973, citing progress in peace negotiations, Nixon announced the suspension of all offensive actions against North Vietnam, to be followed by a unilateral withdrawal of all U.S. troops. The Paris Peace Accords on 'Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam' were signed on 27 January, officially ending direct U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. We're SO much smarter aren't we? Blame the French for Vietnam too. That's 19 years earlier, the French withdrew.

Whether the French Gov't was right or wrong is really beside the point. The French have taken the role of antagonizer to the last superpower on earth. Their government feels that there has to be a check to worldwide American dominance.
I would agree that on the face of it, the French, for the past few years, have seemed to outclass us on the diplomatic front.

But your question, if you are sincere about it, I think is naive. The French Gov't is probably torn between their hatred for American might, and their hatred for the sea of Muslims that are invading their country, and destroying the French culture.

Do you think that Iraq is similar to Vietnam?

Was the Vietnam conflict actually a battle in the larger war against Communism that has been virtually defeated?

Will Iraq be but a battle in the larger war on Islam?

Will we ever win? Will we lose, and our child or grandchildren be forced to pray to Allah?

What do the French have to say about that?

Everyone is aware of that materazzi is a finally end up service provider and a soiled participant. If any individual as skilled as Zidane is dull ample to fall for it and react like he did, then he deserved to be despatched off. It's been occurring for years, and probably the most disgusting factor is that FIFA banned Materazzi for a sport due to the fact that of it, as that begins a unsafe precedent. Zidane is not any saint both, he is been despatched off eight occasions in his profession, and that used to be the third time for headbutting. It could be very exciting to look a identical reel of Zidane's indiscretions, as that would pass on for approximately quarter-hour.

France has been in locked conflict with the Muslim Brotherhood for 50 years.

It's about time people put down the game controllers and started looking at what France has really gone through with this Jihadi issue.

Have you heard of French Morocco, French Algiers, Muslims have sought to punish France for colonial expansion that took place hundreds of years ago.

Search it study it then you will see how it is not a simple french fried potatoes joke.

Ruth is right about the French abandonment of Vietnam after their colonialization that led to the communist invasion of the country. This brought us into it, but thats not addressing your question...

Frankly, the death toll of vietnam and the one of Iraq do not even compare, and frankly neither does the violence. And to be blunt, why should any person listen to what France says, especially after their very shifty and unreliable "alliance" status with the US, and there tendancy to stab us in the back, and wimp out...

I was saying they were right back in January of 2003.

The real reason the US invaded Iraq was to prevent the embarge from being lifted and France & Russia from securing oil deals.

Not I because the French are not experts on war . They always need help when it comes to a conflict. Therefore they have no say so in the matter.

The French are the reason we got into the Vietnam War. Did you know that?

You picked a really sore combination.

EDIT: Alex is right, I didn't answer your question, because as an American, it offended me beyond the ability to answer such a contemptuous question.
