Not exactly sure. He took lots of that from a state constitution.

One things if for sure when fighting oppressions and looking for independence pulling the religion card is about as good as pulling the race card. It's a nice weapon. It's low keyed. He could have qouted Moses, you know, but that's blatant!

Also like any good script it was re-written. Franklin and I beleive Hamilton added to it after hot debate.

Could be some representatives wouldn't agree to sign it unless a reference to God was made.

Natural law or Deism as it is more properly called believes in a higher power or creator as in mother nature but does not believe in prophets, saviors, heaven, hell or any other aspects of the Abrihamic religions of Christianity, Judaism or Islam.

All but two of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were Deists.
