Why can't a known molarity be used for titration without standardization?

a 'standard' solution must be very well characterized. Even if one is very carefull to measure out exact amounts of chemical to make a solution there are still substantial errors involved that cannot be avoided. The only way to know for sure what the concentration of a solution is, is by calibrating it against a standard.
