I think for most people its a jealousy thing. I hate the guy I work with because he makes a ton more money than I do, we do the same job, and I do the job better. I'm sure everyone who "Hates" A-rod has played baseball in their life thinks they can do way better than him and for a lot less money. The guy had good stats last season, but because he's A-Rod, that's not good enough, because he gets paid $250 million, he needs to hit .500 and drive in 200 Runs, and put the ball over the fence 70-80 times a season. If a player like Jose Valintine or Andy Phillips or Yunski Bentacourt put up the same numbers as A-Rod, everyone would be calling them Gods, not berating them....

I have issues with him because I am a long time Seattle Mariners fan. I watched him become the great player that he is now, but I was upset a how greedy he was when he signed with Texas. The Mariners were becoming a great team when he left and probably would have been able to challenge for a title, if not win one, but Alex decided that he wanted 5 million more a year than the M's were offering to play for a team that was not going to contend. After that I lost respect for him. I miss the days when baseball was about the love of the game and not the money.

Because he is not Derek Jeter...No serioulsy, I do not hate him as much as i hate the fact that he does not wear his emotions on his sleave. I think that if he actually got really pissed and showed his emotion when messing up ppl would not hate him more.
Also, he needs to stop refering to his play so much during interviews and just talk about the team. He is too polished and that is what also can rub ppl the wrong way.
Bottom line, as huge Yankee fan until he wins a ring, he will never be loved in the Bronx!

Lets see....
#1 His contract, not that its his fault but he is guilty by association. He is expected to hit .350 with 50 HR's and 150 RBI's every year. This leads into his "not hitting in the clutch". Its not that he doesnt, but everytime he doesnt succeed, it is dramatized in the media because, once again...his contract. This now leads into his defensive skills. He had a horrible year defensively. Why? His contract. He is so preoccupied with all the negatives surrounding his offensive stats by the media, he commonly becomes lax in his other duties.
But the real answer to the question is because he is such a G#%D^$#Med skirt. Stop friggin worrying about what the media says about you. And go out and play. You have no worries about money. He should be having the time of his life, yet he sulks all the time. I am sick of his attitude.

I beleive there are a variety of reasons. His persona and image is such that he only looks out for himself. That is not a good trait to have in any team sport. I believe that because of this mannerism he tends to create distance between himself and his teammates. You could also throw in the media. If someone pays me that much money I would be working my tail off day in and day out. Baseball would be my life. I would make sure they are getting a return on their investment. For the most part you just don't see that in A-rod. Look at Ichiro, the guy is constantly looking to improve his game. He never shines the light on himself, you never hear of him not getting along with the media and teammates. Has a tremendous work ethic.

His career numbers are actually good in the "clutch," although I don't really believe in the whole clutch thing. And I don't think he's greedy.
I like him, and I'd love to have him on my team. I don't get the hate for him. I saw the "work ethic" comment above my post, and I just have to say that ARod has a killer work ethic - from everything I've heard about him, he's constantly working on his game. The problem is that there's a perception that everything comes so easy for him that he doesn't really have to work hard on it.

I love a-rod!
For two reasons.
1- He strikes out easily
2- when the yankees release him (Because they hate him so much) he can come over to the Twins and help them out with the power hitting!

I believe it is nothing specific. One reason in NY that he is not liked. Because he has taken some shots at Jeter. As you know Jeter is beloved by Yankees fans. I think until Jeter takes him off the hook. A-Rod will never be popular in the Bronx. The money does factor in to the hatred. I don't think it's fair, but it's a factor.

I haven't liked him since the 2004 playoffs against the BoSox. He was getting tagged out by the pitcher, Arroyo, going down the first base line. A-Rod smacks the pitcher's glove hard with his hand, knocking the ball out. He's called out anyway, and gets this whiney look on his face like "what did I do"?
It seemed extremely classless and immature to me.

i dont like a-rod because he thinks hes god's gift to baseball. i would much rather give a guy like pujols, beltran, or jeter a deal like that. he, at the time, was not the best SS in baseball. he played good defense, but he got the money because of his bat. jeter has never had a bad year. pujols is always an MVP canidate because of his numbers and his glove. beltran is a 5 tool CF who can win 3 MVPs in his career. so yes, this might a greed thing, but u know what, most professional athletes r greedy.
