depends where you are in maryland. It has become rather crowded everywhere in the last 10 years. Especially within 50 miles of DC. Modest houses (3 bedroom, 1500 sqf) in Gaithersburg cost about $750K. The metro line is 15 minutes from my house on a good day, but usually takes an hour to drive there, then another hour plus for the train to reach DC. I would consider prettier parts of VA if DC is your destination.

Further into maryland, there isn't much to boast. Just a bunch of people spreading towards Pennsylvania.

If your focus is on a small state go with Rhode Island. Maryland is barely a step up from Jersey, though not bad if you enjoy large crowds.

I was born and raised in MD. I moved to Ohio in 95, that was okay just not much to do . I now live in PA and I HATE it, you talk about taxes, they charge you a $10.00 privilege to work tax, since when has it been a privilege to work, not to mention if you work in the borough you are charged an additional $54.00, then you have local tax, state tax and fed. tax. The property taxes are crazy and not to mention the $600.00 per year school tax. MD taxes are not to bad in comparison to other places, there is always something to do and some where to go. There is a lot of night life in MD. There is a lot of job ops to. The two things that are pretty expensive in MD is car insurance and gas & electric, but if you have a good job you will make it. I know that their electric charges went up my best friend lives in Essex MD and her gas & electric is outragous.

believe maryland is awesome maybe you should go and stay there for a while and if you don't like you should move to the other state.
