Remove the top radiator hose from the engine. Then remove the three bolts holding the housing on, the thermostat is under that housing. Be sure to install the new one the same way the old one comes out. Also be sure to buy a new rubber seal to go on the thermostat, they do not come together. They have to be purchased separately.

Take a look at your radiator, find the large hose going from the top of your radiator to the engine. Where the hose meets the engine is your water inlet, secured by 2-3 bolts typically. Drain your coolant, remove the bolts on the water inlet housing, underneath you will find the thermostat. Replace and rebuild.

It's easy on a 2.9. Just make sure you use the right one and don't listen to cousin Bubba mouthbreather telling you to use a cooler one.
