ISO 9362 (also known as SWIFT code) is a standard list of Bank Identifier Codes approved by the International Organization for Standardization.

i am not sure if there is a swift code related to computers or programming

It has same usage Routing numbers in US
It is code given the brach of the BANK for identification purpose. It is used in India and European countries. When you want send the money or DD or do a wire transfer this code is to be entered brach code . Swift code and your account number together idetfy a person.

SWIFT is the body which regulates the messages sent in NON XML form when there is an corporate announcement like BONUS MERGER etc
MT 564 is the defacto standard
