Nothing about depo provera is normal. I'd really reccomend a different method of contraception.
EDIT- Sorry, I should have elaborated on that. Everyone I know who used depo had no periods the whole time they were on it, plus for 1-2 years after they came off it. It can't be healthy if it sticks around and messes with your hormones for that long. It is also proven to cause weight gain in many cases. And because it's so new, there's no research into the long term effects of it. A lot of doctors advise against using it for these reasons, which makes me weary. If I were you I'd consider the pill- I know it's a pain but it's been around so long we know it's safe!

It's quite normal for your cycle to be disrupted by hormone methods of contrception. I'm on implanon, and haven't bled in over a year, but my friend used to have breakthrough bleeding on it the whole time.
This won't be a "true" period, unless you have missed a dose of the depo, as the progesterone stops you ovulating.

I've been on it for two years as well. :) It's lovely not having to remember a pill, isn't it?
You'll have some breakthough bleeding every now and then. It happens to me every few months. If it's really heavy or lasts more than a few days, you'll probably want to ask your gynecologist about it, but it's probably just a mini-period, and totally normal.

Yes, but I would still call the doctor and check that it is okay.

It happens. As long as it is not unusual for you (pain, lumpy etc) you should be fine
