Taming of the shrews...lol... good luck, I held my tongue on many occasions to keep peace with my in-laws. They are both gone now, and believe it or not I kind of miss them...

Wow, this question is ageless. In what ways are they mean to you? Also, if it's your mother-in-law, that can be an entirely different story. I could write a novel. The current accusation against me is that I ripped my husband from his family because I hate his mother. I'm also the reason why he doesn't talk to his brother much, because I hate his brother and his wife. None of this is true (except the part about me dislikeing my mother in law). Anyway, is it just differences in opinion? Or do they viciously make up lies about you and try to break up your marriage? Do they lie to your children (if you have any kids) or to other family members about you? Or is it just stuff like your in-laws don't think you decorate your home well?

i have some mean in-laws and i just dont talk to them. I have 3 children and the only time they want anything to do with them is at Christmas. I think for the best interest of the children if u have children is to stay away. If your kids see them like that towards you then they might treat other people like that.

I had mean in-laws and I handled it with extreme kindness. I never answered back nor got revenge and after a few years they began to be ashamed of themselves because I actually hadn't done anything wrong to them. Things changed and now we are totally ok with each other. Just turn the other cheek, and keep doing it, it works!

Nobody likes everybody... You don't have to deal with them at all... It's your choice. Why be around anyone that doesn't treat you the way you want to be treated... Just because they are family (extended in this case), does not make a difference... It's about people, not families.

Stay away from them as much as possible. When you have to be around them bite your tongue and kill them with kindness. It's hard when you have awful inlaws. But they are your husbands parents so sometimes you just have to grin and bare it.

I agree with the two submissions above me. Best thing to do is ignore them. Dont even let them get to you.
