Presentation is everything.
A gift in a brown paper bag can give the impression that you're not interested enough to even bother wrapping it, or it was a last-minute idea. Half the fun for the receiver is the anticipation, pulling off the ribbon, unwrapping the paper.
A beautiful wrap job can upgrade a mediocre gift to wonderful, while a brown paper bag can reduce a great gift to a "Yea, thanks,no big deal" response.
Even paper bags can be made interesting and fun. Slit open the bag, flatten and use it like regular wrapping paper. Instead of ribbons use jute, twine or raffia. You could add a pine cone, evergreen branch, cinnamon stick, birch twig. Claim you're in harmony with nature and everything is recyclable.
Make the effort and you'll reap the rewards.

If I'm placing the gift under the tree then I'll go for the wrapping paper. If I'm going to present the gift at a public sitting or place where there is not a waste receptacle then I'll present it in a lovely gift bag to help facilitate the ability to Carry it home. God bless and Merry Christmas!

I use both if it is an odd shape or will poke out of paper I use a gift bag. I will use wrapping paper if it does not take an act of GOD to get it wrapped!

Well if you want to tell the person that you couldn't be bothered to spend a little extra effort to present them with a beautifully wrapped gift, then go ahead and throw it in a paper bag. Better yet, why don't you let the dog slobber on it first and then throw it in an old lunch bag and smoosh up the top to close the bag.

If you can't wrap, put it in a nice bag with tissue paper and a curly bow. If you can wrap, just do it! It's so much fun when I get to unwrap gifts...it's one of the few things that make you feel like a kid again!

def wrap the gifts- you might think its a hassle but people will appreciate the time and effort you put into it. it is more personal than just tossing it in a bag. however, if you have odd shaped items, sometimes a bag is better and easier. just use cute tissue paper and bows to dress it up

Decorative bags with colorful tissue paper is nice for light items, but wrapping in boxes is best for heavier ones.
