You will not find any snow within 1K of Houston, TX.

Keep driving past Houston until you reach Colorado. It rarely snows in Houston, and when it does it will be national news.

Come up I-25 to Colorado. We have lots of snow in the mountains. If you are going to be vacationing anywhere (CO or elsewhere) you better make reservations now, I'm sure everywhere is booked.

within 1,000 miles of Houston? that kind of makes it tough... but since you asked, it's not uncommon to see standing snow in amarillo or big spring this time of year.
are you looking to go skiing? northern new mexico (near santa fe-just south of the Colorado border) is another idea.

Go sking in New Mexico. Or go visit Roswell NM.

or Mt Rushmore...its about 1300 miles away. A bit further

there are some really nice places in the woodland "I-45 north" they have lots of holiday things to see.no snow but a out door ice rink that is really nice.
