i was sitting on my couch watching mary poppins and i noticed that there was a boat on top oh a house in the movie now why ios that and why do they shot the cannon on the top of the house which causes everything in the house to shake and movie please help me with this

The character living in the house is a retired admiral (Admiral Boom, played by Reginald Owen). Presumably he misses the sea, and carries on with his old habits. A great British eccentric.

The house is shaped like a boat. I don't know why he shoots his cannon off but it's always right on time.
