I'm not 'hoodish' in anything that I do. I don't consider myself stuck-up but I do think I'm classy. Why do people frown upon this as if its a sin that I don't speak Ebonics, have a babydaddy and have high standards when it comes to the men I date and the people I socialize with. Does anyone else experience this problem?

* Bougie is a term people use to call a person "stuck-up" or high class. If I decide against McDonald's for dinner and suggest a dine-in restaurant such as Vic & Anthony's steakhouse or a Sushi Bar I might be referred to as "bougie"

I think that someone will judge you no matter what you try to do, so the best you can do is try to be happy and live your life pleasing to yourself. I do not think thee is anything wrong with your thinking, but I know some people will find fault in it. It's just the way the world goes. Live your life for yourself.

Maybe you're hanging out with the wrong people if they're calling you "bougie" or perhaps you are conveying this attitude in some way other than via the choices you make.

I don't do things that are considered "hoodish" either, and I prefer fine dining to McDonalds, too, but no one calls me "bougie" for the choices I make.

This is said to me all the time because if someone speaks to me, I speak back but that's it, I dont hold a conversation or eleborate any further. My "associates"I have told me that I walk around with mynose in the air, this comes across to others as "I think I am better than you". It's nothing wrong with your way of thinking or how you choose to be but sometimes people tend to go to the extreme with it. They announce that they have "high standards" when dating, you dont have to say this just keep it to oneself or they make sure it is known that I am "high maintenance" again no announcement is needed. Just continue to be who you are and what you are and don't allow others to make you feel like because you don't act/talk or do the things they do that you are bougie.

Well, no, and I had to look up bougie. I had no idea. Now that I have an understanding of the slang definition, I would say that "hoodish" people have no toleration of people who just want to live a normal middle class American existence. I see happiness and success in your future. I see drama and bitterness in theirs.

well maybe I'm just unintelligent cause I hang in the "ghetto" or possibly that I may be a little "hoodish" but what the hell is bougie?
