first i noticed the dash lights flckering on and off, then the screaming sound constantly, then my temp gage is slowly started to go up, both batt and brake lights have came on, and the heater suddenly started blowing out cold air all last night on my way home. i just had new tires, new belts, a week ago and i have good reason to believe that the person who worked on my car maybe has something to do with the sudden problems im having. someone told me that the bearings on the alternator are bad, so i have no clue.....help please?!!!

I was going to guess alternator also, this model also has an idler for the serpentine belt. this too could be the culprit.
If the belt is being slowed down by a bad pulley this will squeal.
this could be water pump as it will reduce cooling to the engine causing the temp to go up and the flow restriction will cause the heater core to cool down. But then again, something is slowing the speed of the belt causing this issue. The brake light is a puzzler. Was the new belt due to a broken one? The only way I see the service shop being at fault would be if they installed the belt wrong or somehow got it too tight,

And just so I can say I said it first......Check the hamster he may be tired....

Before removing the old timing belt he should have set all the timing marks on TDC. There are timing marks on the crankshaft pulley and on the camshaft pulley. If they are not lined up he will need to turn the crankshaft slowly until the TDC mark is lined up with the pointer on the timing belt cover. Then back it up 1/4 turn so all the pistons are partially down. Next turn the camshaft pulley to line up its timing marks. Return the crankshaft to TDC and install the timing belt. He's nuts to be doing this himself if he's not a mechanic and you will be lucky if he doesn't bend all the valves. Have him turn the crankshaft 2 revolutions by hand before starting the motor, if the belt is off a couple of teeth and they hit a piston you may save having to tear the motor apart and spend $1,500 on repairs.

The bearings in the alternator could cause the screaming noise, but I don't see how that would cause the other problems that you describe. However I have seen some strange things happen so I won't say that the alternator is not the problem.

My Dad had a Kia once and he hated it. It was always in the shop. I suggest you trade that piece of junk in for a better car. Once his dash board even started to peal off! The guy at the dealership told my Dad that it was because he parked his car in the sun. My Dad always used one of those windshield visor things to keep the sun out too! But good luck with your problem.

Check to see if your belts are tight enough. That can cause all kinds of problems. I would go to a different machanic and get it checked out.
