I also like Patricia Cornwell and John Grisham. After devouring all their books I discovered James Patterson. He many books available, and I have enjoyed every one. I would highly recommend James Patterson to anybody who likes a good mystery novel.

Other authors who write similiar story lines as Grisham and Cornwell are: Iris Johansen, Sandra Brown (crime novels not her romance novels), Mary Higgins Clark and James Patterson. If all else fails get her a gift card to your local bookstore so she can pick them out herself.

Two that I can recommend are:
"A Daughter of Time" by Josephine Tey. This is #6 on the list of 100 Best Mysteries of All Time. Just republished again, it's fairly easy to find.
"Search for the Sun" by Ellen Anthony. Hard to find, but worth it. This mystery takes you through the murder scene several times and the killer is even caught and kills himself well before the end of the book--before you know the true extent of his crime and the real motive. i admire Christopher Rice... He in uncomplicated terms has 3 books out good now, yet they are large! Very suspenceful...... A Density of Souls, The Snow backyard, and easy-weight Befor Day. They arent sequence books so which you will examine whichever first.

Try looking in a little book review blog I like at http://www.michellesbookreviews.com/. Not sure if she reviewed anything in your genre, but if she did, you get a good idea of the book.

Has she read Sherlock Holmes books, or Agatha Christie? Both are very good, and Agatha Christie has many books to choose from.
