No hamsters do not like to cuddle, in fact they can be very territorial. They bite and hiss alot. Try a gerbil or guinea pig.

Hello, I just got a hamster yesterday. His name is Elvis. Hamsters are very easy to take care of and they do not try to escape. The only way they can get out is if a latch is left open or they live in a plastic chewable house. (most cages are made hamster chew proof now)
As for cuddling, it just depends on the hamster. I always search the pet stores for the smaller of the hammies because they are much easier to handle when they are babies, and they quickly develop a bond with their care-taker.
I have never had a bad experience owning hamsters.
If you are sensitive to bad smells, then just don't get a female hamster. They have a stronger urine stench. It is best to go with a male because they are much tamer and they are practically oderless as long as you keep an eye on the cage.
Good luck with you decision to own the worlds greatest pet...one that doesn't bark or pee on your carpet...:)
If you have any more questions here's a great site... http://www.hamsterhideout.com/
They even tell you how you can teach a hamster tricks!
Good Luck!

They are rodents and do not like to be cuddled. The pros are... can't think of any. Cons - they sleep all day, they will keep you awake at night running on their little wheel, they don't like to be held, they bite, and they escape from their cages.
You might consider a guinea pig. My neighbor has one, and she is always playing with it outside and holding it and cuddling it and it doesn't seem to mind.

Everyone is pretty much right...hamsters don't like to be cuddled. You are probably looking for an animal like a guinea pig, which will eventually learn to like you and like being cuddled (it takes awhile for them to trust you).
Another animal that is small that loves human interaction is the pet rat. They like being cuddled, particularly males do. They actually like human companionship unlike mice, gerbils, and hamsters.

not really cuddled! They neeed the cage cleaned every 3-4 days as the urine smells and they tend to go in the corners of the cage. They are kind of sensitive to changes in temp. Do drafts!!! They can be a bit bitey and should be supervised around children. They are animated lil' creatures though and love to climb in tunnels.

OMG!! If you look at the questions I answered alot of them are about hamsters!! I have two and I love then to death. I have Muffin, a dwarf hamster, and Fuzzball, a fancy hamster. The nicest kinds are either Syrian or Teddy bear. They are fabulous pets!!
Pros: Fun, Cute, Easy to care for, NOT alot of money, lots of fun toys, lots of fun treats, if your friends have them they can meet, don't take up alot of room, don't escape easily if you have proper cage (don't let people tell you differently), fun to play with, sorta cuddlable, fuzzy
Cons: Bite, Poop alot, Run on their wheels at night
Hints for cons: Wear thin gardening gloves to prevent bites, poop is soo small easy to clean up, if their wheel annoys you take it off the cage and put Vaseline were it attaches then slide it over the Vaselined spot

My aunt breeds them so I know!! Please e - mail me if you get one!! I can give you hints or help!!

They are not really good for anything except they are cute to look at, and fun to hold once or twice. Pretty much, they are little stinky animals that try to escape every chance they get. I had one once. He was white and fluffy. He got out of his cage even with a stack of books on top of it (I still have no clue how he got out). Anyway, 15 years later and never even found his corpse.
At least birds sing you pretty songs.

Hampsters provide a ton of entertainment in their cage and ball, they are loads of fun to watch, however out of all the pockett pets they tend to be the most nippiest when handled (they don't really like to be handled) and a bit particular about who they are housed with.
Just something to consider.

small animals like a hampster and guinea pig, or rat and mouse have the same idea... them ore they are handled, and used to the human contact of being picked up and played with, then the more comfortable they are going to be with it. they all make good pets!!
