Can anyone tell me how Jessie gets out of her handcuffs in the Steven King novel "Gerald's Game"

I think she cut her hand to get it to bleed so she could lubricate the cuffs so she could get out of them. She damaged her hand badly by doing that, although I don't think the skin peeled off. I haven't read the book except once, so I might be wrong.

It was really gross. I'm pretty sure she used something to cut the skin around her wrists so the blood would lubricate her hand, then the skin just ended up coming off...nasty. Last Stephen King book I ever read.
