Socialism is one of the values of the world's Liberals. Socialism is pushed by them not because of it's actual success (it isn't) but rather under the belief that it is "fair". This is also false.
Under most socialisms the economies are stunted: France and Germany have double digit unemployment. Sweden was forced to remove many of it's socialist programs, such as "paid sick leave" due to the fact that people simply refused to go to work.
Capitalism, when regulated, pays the productive and innovative. It does deny the lazy and unproductive, but most would say that is the problem of those IN that group.

Well, if you consider socialized health care and how great it has worked in Canada (with a few faults). I mean sure the taxes are a bit higher for everyone, but I'd rather pay a few extra bucks in taxes and not worry about having to go to the hospital any time I need to instead of only going when I'm about to die because my employer doesn't offer health insurance.

Many would argue that the idea of a universal free healthcare program for everyone is a form of socialism, as are welfare and other government assistance programs.
