I'm not interested in going back to any time period where they don't have modern plumbing.
So -- I think I would go back to early July 1997 and tell myself not to do anything stupid -- and to short Worldcom and Enron.

That is an easy one.....
But it comes with three provisions
1- I have to be able to stay there for 45(+) years... and we need to be able 'jump' through the couple of decades so certain key points in time.
2- I have to be allowed to take pictures, video and, at least conduct a couple of interviews.
3- I have to be able to have 3 other people travel with me who are unimpeachable spokespeople for their faiths; Jew, Muslim, Christian.
January 6 B.C.
So we can have time to blend in and become invisible amongst the population. We need to stay there until at least March 33 A.D. hopefully July 70 A.D.
I wan to be able to conduct an in-depth investigation into the life and times of Jesus, his ministry, and most of all Mary Magdalene. Too many human beings have been affected by what might or might not have happened. People die everyday over the stupid argument of his divinity or his 'human-ness'.

This is a great question!
I thought of it a lot of times in the past but I couldn't decide. I know for sure that i would love to be able to travel in all historical periods, in each for different reasons.
But for sure i wouldn NOT want to travel to the future!

the norman conquest, 1006. i am fascinated with william the conqueror. violent i know, but william changed the fate of england forever, pointing them to europe rather than the north. things would have been quite different if harald hardrada had been king making britain rather viking, eh?
OR the reign of elizabeth I. lots of exciting people around then. the renaissance, sigh. how wonderful.
but i get to come back, right?

USA (or what the area was called, then) revolution: see what the people really looked like, dressed like, how they saw themselves and their world, how they really thought; meet the "stars" of the revolution as we know them now (e.g., Jefferson, Franklin, other as we call them "thinkers" of the time) and see if what they wrote, meant, what we think they meant.
