When they groom themselves they swallow some of the hair which eventually leads to a furball or hairball. You can buy a paste or gel type of hairball preventative at any vet or pet store. You can put a little on your finger and have the animal lick it off, or open their mouth and wipe a little on the roof of their mouth. Check the type you buy for the quantity and frequency of use. I give my three cats some every week to prevent hairballs. Good luck!

they clean their skin and fur by licking off the nasty so the fur and hairs become a blockage inside the stomach so we give them a furball treatment from the store its by the food supplies or at the petco or heres the old time way to avoid furball in the wet food twice a week add some olive oil one tspoon to the wet food and or some canola oil see easy as that

Animals groom their coats with their tongues. Most don't have the instinct or ability to spit the fur out so they swallow it. Since they can't digest the fur very well they regurgitate it. There are fur ball control foods that can be purchased to help with the digestion, but they aren't always effective.

They lick themselves in order to clean themselves, and swallow hairs, which turn into hairballs in their stomach. That cannot be digested, so they can have constipation or vomit furballs. There are foods that help control that, and you can brush them regularly so that much of the hair that is falling is taken away by your brushing and not their licking.

they lick themselves and you need to go to a good pet store and buy pet oil that lets the animal get the fur out of themselves

Have them groomed often, long hair cats should be combed not brushed (with a metal comb) daily, short hair atleast once a week with a flea comb and you could help them out by getting them a sanitary shave if it is a constant problem.

It's because they lick themselves to keep clean, so keep them brushed and use hair ball control shampoo!
