I think he has aspirations to join a cult in our area, we live in Pa just north of Allentown. He does not work but always has money is he doing something illegal? He is an older relative and has all kinds of weird paganistic stuff in his basement.

Almost everyone has a "strange" relative in their family. If he was going to join a cult, he probably would have done it by now. My guess is that he's probably dipping in the dope and selling it on the side for money. I could be wrong.

Maybe he's depressed and looking for acceptance. Loneliness has taken many people off the beaten path.
He could be selling his weird stuff on e-bay and grumpy because he never gets laid.
