It's very much dead. Modernism dealt with the ideal of reaching Utopia as well as an innate fear of industrialism.
In today's world, society completely accepts industrialism as a way of life. And we don't seem to care much for the idea of Utopia anymore, as society always seems to reject globalization and prefection of any kind.
So, in a nutshell, YES. Modernism is dead. Postmodernism saw to that.

Of course it isn't dead. The great Modernist thinkers are being studied even more these days than they were 60-70 years ago (Walter Benjamin, for example, has had a complete renaissance). In many ways, their ideas are just as relevant as they were when they wrote them in the 1920s-40s.
As long as we live in cities and are considering how to compress time and space (it used to be telephones, now we have the internet), Modernist ideas will remain important.

From my experience, modernism is pretty much gone. This is the postmodern era, and even that is starting to get old. Who knows what will be next.

No, no, no! It's moderation that has been in extremes for some six years, and has now been officially declared dead. Radical right wingers have been spotted lurking about the crime scenes with bloody knives quarreling with gun nuts for the trophy.
