It's an MMO - massive multiplayer game, online.
What you can do in real life, you can do there, plus one.
Think of the Sims, but even more open.
It has its own monetary system - you can buy and sell things within the game, and interact with the environment. It's a huge, huge game. It's also free to sign up.

it's an MMO, BUT it's not all that good. i was playing on a pretty good computer and it was soooo freakin' slow and the graphics weren't that good and it just didn't grab my attention. Then again, I'm comparing it to IMVU, which is a 3D chat...it kicks BUTT! haha. I would DEFINITELY go to IMVU before signing up for Second Life.
