I love girls that actually take the time to understand hockey. There is nothing worse than going to a game and trying to explain every rule and detail to a date. I gotta say it might be weird but I'm kind of attracted to girls that play hockey. I think athletic girls are sexy.

okai, the comment about women shouldn't play hockey is why i stayed. please, i could skate circles around half of the guys on my team and they treated me like **** because i wasn't a guy.
i hate it when your gender gets in the way. so, i cut my hair and nobody knew i was a girl (i know not the smartest thing in the world, hell i even adopted a nick-name so that nobody would know i was a girl) it worked. nobody was the wiser and everyone watching said that i was really good. it pisses me off when guys say you shouldn't play. i have changed so many minds and it makes me feel great.
i will admit i am pretty crappy now, and only play jr. but i get along fine. i love the sport if you love it too don't let anything stop you. you aren't the first and you won't be the last. take comfort in the fact that you are not alone and that many others are in a similar situation because they love the game.
the hitting is the best part but with the rule changes now, the womens and mens games are basically similar, the only difference is we can't hip check.
good luck!

Im not a boy, but i can tell you my experience of playing a sport on a guys team, being the only girl. I played on my boy's varsity baseball team in high school because we didnt have softball (and i dont like softball anyway).
I had the guys on the team who were really encouraging and team players. But you may run into the guys that are not into the whole scene of having a girl playing on their team.
In some ways i can definitely see where a guy like that may come from. After all, time after time, guys are told they cannot play on a girl's team. There is actually a case out there right now from a guy who wanted to be on a girl's school gymnastics team and they would not allow him.
Title IX is the law that creates the confusion like this, and it is a difficult law to understand.
Anyway, good luck with your sport. Hockey is a tough sport!

Women playing hockey is fine except that referees do not call the game, as far as penalties are concerned (hitting is the problem as another person mentioned). It's not the woman's fault but until referees get that out of their head it's going to be a distraction because I checked a young woman in high school. It wasn't any harder or softer than any other hit and it was clean but the ref called it roughing. Now you tell me if the ref gave her preference or not but I think he did. And I played with a really good female athlete that played for Bethel Park High School in PA and she went onto play college hockey so I really don't see why refs call it that way but unfortunately they do.
So in summary I have no problem for it as long as they are willing to play by the games rules, do not get preferential treatment, and don't whine about anything that the other players wouldn't whine about.
And yes it's sexy, hot, and whatever else you want to call it unless they are but ugly.

It's perfectly fine for a girl to play hockey with guys. Girls can be equally or even better than the guys. Look at Hayley Wickenheiser. Played pro hockey in Finland with men. She had 12 points and the best faceoff %. Imagine those men's faces when this women beat them in a faceoff. Too bad she left the team when her coach wouldn't give her more ice time. He thought she can't be a physical player. What a chauvinist.

When I was growing up, there were two girls on my team. Nobody in our locker room cared that they were playing with us. Most of us looked at it like this: You may be a girl when you're in you regular clothes, but as soon as you put on you're equipment you were no longer a girl, you were a hockey player. Same went for the boys. I've played with and coached some pretty tough girls before. Never once have I had a problem with a girl in the same lokcer room as me or on the same ice. Good luck.

Playing ice hockey with girls in Squirts was fine, but after the checking starts, it feels kind of weird checking a girl.
I think women playing in their own league after the age of 11 or so is a good idea.

Honestly. They get in the way.
In full check hockey they are treated differently whether anyone wants to admit it or not.
In non-check leagues they tend to be stuck on a wing because they have no offensive or defensive skills.
I understand and realize that there are exceptions, but 99/100 women are obstacles and handicaps on the ice.
EDIT: For the two gals below. Pllleeeeaaassse. Any time, any place. I assure you would not last 1 game in a mens full check league.

Hockey chicks are cool as long as they play the game like it's supposed to be played and they don't complain. When I was a kid, we had two girls on our team. They were tough as nails.
