Well the breaks such as winter break and spring break are a bit longer and by keeping the kids in school year round, there won't be as much of a chance of them forgetting what they learned.

As a year round teacher, I would have it no other way. There are a couple of reasons why it is great. Students only have about a month off at a time, which means that they tend to remember a lot more when they get back to school, compared to having 3 months off and forgetting much more. It takes less time to get them back on track when they get back to their regular school schedule. Secondly, most teachers feel they need a break some time during the school year and will take some sick days for mental health. Well, when this usualy happens to me, I realize that in a week or two, I will have a month off. Makes for teachers to be happy and effective.

On another note, the traditional school year was created so that children would be able to help their family with the harvest on the family farm. It is no longer appropriate in current times. Society is just use to the status quo.

I don't like the idea of year round schooling, I look forward to summer break when my kids are home so we can spend time together, they grow so fast and I want to enjoy every moment.

Becuse the kids in the US aren't learning anything while they're in school anyway so you might as well keep them in year round in hopes that we, as a country, won't fall too far behind the rest of the world.

first of all, there is no break from knowledge.
whether you are in school studying and/or learning or on a playground somewhere picking up new trivia, we are always learning.
so, if one can take advantage of year-round schooling that could either make them smarter, allow them to learn/experience more things, advance their education quicker to allow them to graduate sooner etc.
