I am sick of hearing how cruel it is to the inmate and his/her family. What about the family of the victim? Was it fair that a woman was savagely beaten with a pistol while her 12 year old daughter was forced to watch? Was it fair that a hard working honest family man was brutally murdered at work because a crack head needed drug money? Murderous slime have no rights and their death should be as quick and as gruesome and painful as the murder they commited.

The system isn;t perfect so we should let all the murderers continue to claim 1million tax dollars a year from you and me.
To keep an imate insolitary confiment and 'protect' his / her rights thats what it cost you and me in taxes..

Our justice system doesn't exist to dole out revenge, and society as a whole isn't in that business.

Criminal sentences are made to insure that society is protected, to deter future crimes, and to make either restitution or to rehabilitate those who can be.

The death penalty does not accomplish any goals better than a life sentence. Is it fair that someone who is financially well off will probably never have to face a death penalty while a poor person who commits an indentical crime would?

If the punishment isn't color- and money-blind, it also has no business in our "justice" system.

Look at the list of nations that use the death penalty, besides the US, and tell me what you think of those societies and how they are run. That should tell you everything you need to know.

I can understand a viceral and emotional reaction that these people don't deserve to live. Saying that society should play the role of killing to reinforce the idea that killing is wrong is Orwellian, to say the least.

We don't put family members of victims on juries because our system is supposed to be as objective and dispassionate as possible. The death penalty only serves strictly emotional needs, which are better served by other vehicles.

I grant you that some crimes deserve the punishment of the death penalty, but given all the errors in the court system and the number of false convictions it is extremely possible that an innocent person could be executed, and that is unforgiveable. Also, if we kill somebody for their crimes doesn't that make us, in the very least "like them" - vicious, brutal, and cruel? Do you really want to be like a murderer? Personally I think it would be much worse to spend life in prison than to get the death penalty, because if you execute somebody then their earthly problems are over, and living in prison is definitely no picnic. And please don't say that I don't know about this kind of crime because I do - my grandparents were murdered, and one of my friends was murdered. In the first case the killer was a mentally ill 14-year old boy - should he have been executed? The issue is much more complex than you seem to make it out to be.

I'm anti-death penalty. if murder is wrong, then we shouldn't kill people. I also think its pretencious and horrible for people to judge other and judge who should live or die. there have also been mistakes where innocents people have been executed.
the family of the inmate are also victims. we can't not incarserate people due to families, but we have to think about the fact that punishing criminals punishes innocents. thats why we have things like visitations and need more.

as far as 'gruesome' eathes are concern, I'm a civilized person and don't plan on becoming a barbarian even in the name of 'fairness'

it is such bullS***!! Why would you assert some thing so inaccurate. i stands proud because the living house that you've under no circumstances been to reformatory. you want to understand what you're speaking about before you put up some thing so stupid. reformatory is the worst position to be in this usa. the concept prisoners in this usa live more desirable ideal than the final public is ridiculous. I actually have a brother in reformatory and have self belief me when I say that the nutrition is disgusting. Its a risky and disgusting position. They get dealt with like animals in there. the photo that you're trying to portray is inaccurate. I even ought to disagree with you. Our justice equipment is incorrect because it set up in a way in which an threat free human being may be placed to lack of life in this usa. Its unlucky that persons like you purchase into each of the bull that the media feeds you.

No, the death penalty is wrong.
Haven't you read about how many prisoners are being released because DNA evidence is proving that many are imprisoned wrongly.

Unless you can resurrect the dead (and no one has done that in about 2,000 years) you will be killing people, some of whom may be Innocent.

Besides, the death penalty cost more than life in prison (at least the way it is carried out in the US) due to legal fees etc.

Just knowing that someone is imprisoned for life should be enough punishment.

my fiance was shot to death just because someone wanted to borrow his car and my fiance said no..he got 2 years or less..I cry many times for him..I loved him so much but I can only imagine how much his family is still tortured at walking in the house and seeing him lieing there in blood dead.. I understand that innocent people sometime are found guilty but for the most part I believe most guilty verdicts are correct. i personally would love to see my fiance's murderer dead and I would love to pull the switch. However I think their death should be slow and very painful..

The death penalty is wrong, period. Murders/rapes/assaults etc. are all horrible, undoable things -- but it's up to the judicial system to exercise mercy and morality upon the people who lack both of those traits. It's perfectly fair to put someone in jail for life but the death sentence is never, and will never, be fairly warranted. A society that puts its criminals to death is obviously falling apart.

My only comment is that : Not everyone up for the death penalty is guilty.
I only disagree with the death penalty because the system is not perfect, mistakes happen.
If the system were perfect (which it could never be) I would agree completely.

I agree with you. Furthermore, there is no reason for a person to be on death row for 20 years. Give them 90 days to file ALL of their appeals, not one at a time. The appeals should be heard withing 90 days of their filing. If upheld, execution should be done within 30 days.
