'Google Mail' has been available for a while. When it first launched in the U.K., it was called 'GMail', but 'Google' later discovered that the couldn't use this brand in the United Kingdom, because another company had registered the name*. In the U.K., we will only be able to have a '…@googlemail.com' address, however, if one substitutes the '…googlemail.com' part with '…gmail.com', it still arrives to the recipient—though officially their e-mail address is '…@googlemail.com'*.

In the U.S.A., consumers can register by paying—through S.M.S. message—google. However, this ability is not currently available in the United Kingdom*.
