I just performed my first random act of kindness. There is a Salvation Army bell ringer at a local store. This man is always full of the holiday spirit and spreads it to all that pass by him...and he does this 8 to 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. (He's an older gentleman and retired, I think.) Something like that impresses me, especially with all the hustle and bustle of the season that is upon us. So today, I went to McDonalds and bought a gift card and put $7 on it. I presented it to this man and said "Thanks for your holiday kindness...lunch is on me." That was so awesome!! He was surprised and so thankful. That just made my day : )

So, the challenge is this...why not do something for someone else? It could be as simple as carrying groceries for the little lady next door...it doesn't matter. The point is, do something nice for someone. I would like to see some of these acts talked about here...nothing hateful or dirty, serious answers only!!!

Happy Holidays everyone!!

I need to do this again....a few years ago I was on a road trip exchanging my kids for Christmas with their father. Anyway, I was gassing up my car and when I went to pay, I paid for the other person's gas also. I managed to get back into my car by the time they got up to the register and just waved to them when they tried to wave me down. I don't know who they were, if they had plenty of money or not. But they had kids so maybe they talked about the message with them that day.

My kids and I also popped up at an elderly neighbor's house last fall and raked her yard without her asking. She fussed that we should stop for a little bit but decided the best way to go about it was to just go inside and bake us some cookies. We were all very appreciative.

Something else I've done is get a special wanted gift for a kid (I work with kids) and left it on their front door step without them seeing me when parents couldn't afford it.

An old man used to come into the video store I worked many years ago. I would often see him sitting in his old truck in a parking lot, doing nothing. When I quit working there, I would periodically go there and put a credit on his account for a drink and movie. He didn't speak a lick of English and I didn't speak a lick of Spanish but we always put a smile on each other's faces.

My father dresses up as Santa every year and goes to nursing homes and walks down the streets to little children's houses to personalize a visit to them. He always parks where it's safe from viewing and the kids eyes just light up when he calls them by their name!

Thanks for the challenge! I need to do some of these things again!

I have the perfect oppurtinuity...In Indy a radio station does this 12 days of Christmas, where a dj sleeps outside in a POD for 12 days to collect toys for local kids. If it's still going on I'll do that, if not I'll think of something.

What a great way to truly celebrate the real meaning of the season...GIVING! Congrats on your wonderful charity, and I am sure he will never forget that day you gave him lunch. Have a Merry Christmas!

Nice of you to give, but isn't this also a huge, pat on the back, look what I did, of you to tell us all about it.

Random acts of kindness are supposed to be anonymous.
