The people who nominate movies for Golden Globes and Oscars see those movies WAY before the public does. Most movies are complete about a year before they are released to theatres, so they're actually kinda old by the time we see them.

Because Golden Globe awards are not given based on public opinion of the films. Its what members of the industry think. People's Choice Awards is the only awards show that reflect ticket sales and such.

It is part of the giant hype machine called Hollywood. The studio sends copies of the film to reviewers and sends out press releases about how wonderful it is (all before the public at large has seen it).
