you can get a positive result about 5 days before you were supposed to get your period

It is possible, but not likely. Although you can conceive 1-3 days within having sex (that's right, just because you had sex say Saturday night, the sperm may be able to penetrate the egg as late as Tuesday), it still takes about five days after conception for the egg to implant in to your uterus. Once this happens, your body will begin producing pregnancy hormones, but it takes a little while for them to be strong enough in your body for a pregnancy test to detect It is best to wait until you actually have a late period to take a test. Although some tests advertise that you can take them up to 5 days before your period is due, if you read their boxes carefully, you will see that they are somewhere around 55% effective at that time (not much better than flipping a coin). Here's a rule of thumb to go by though, you can get a false negative if the hormone is not strong enough in your body yet. You cannot get a false positive. If you get a positive result, you ARE pregnant. If you get a negative, wait a few days and try again to be sure.

It's possible but it is more likely that the positive pregnancy test is due to an earlier sexual encounter than just 9 days ago. It takes about a week (some women less, some women more) to become pregnant. First, it takes a good day for the sperm to fertilize the egg (this is supposing that the sperm was already in the fallopian tubes). Then, the pre-embryo/blastocyst travels down the rest of the fallopian tubes into the uterus and this can take several days. Once in the uterus it takes about a day or two for the embryo to implant. Once implantation occurs, it takes several days for the hcg levels to rise high enough in your system to create a positive result on a pregnancy test.

Home pregnancy tests today can show a positive five days before your missed period. Ideally, ovulation occured two weeks before hand, fertilization occurred at the right time, and then about a week later implantation occurred. Another half week passed and the hormone levels rose high enough to test.

So, if you've had a positive pregnancy test. It was probably due to sex you had 12-16 days before.

If you haven't tested yet, you want to wait until right before you're supposed to get your period or after you've missed your period to test. By then, the hormone levels will be high enough.

Yes, although 9 days is probably the earliest you would see a result, and you'd have to use an EPT (early preg. test). If it is negative, and you have reason to believe you conceived, I would definitely wait a week and take another test. While you might get a positive, you are more likely to not yet be making enough of the pregnancy hormone to show a + result.

My goodness Snickers...with anger like that...I hope that you aren't pregnant! Megan was right...READ THE DIRECTIONS AND EDUCATE YOURSELF BEFORE ENGAGING IN ACTS THAT SHOULD BE MEANT FOR INTELLIGENT ADULTS! It is very unfortunate that humans do not require a license to procreate! Were you absent the day they taught sex ed?? You were stupid enough to come to an internet forum to ask complete strangers if you might be pregnant....perhaps you ought to google the topic "THE BIRDS AND THE BEES"...or go get a book..."HUMAN SEXUALITY FOR DUMMIES". Or, like Megan said..read the directions on the back of the pregnancy test box!

Good lord....is this really what the future has in store for us!!???

Yeah, you can get a positive result. But don't rule out the doctor's test after you have passed or failed the home pregnancy test.

NO you have to wait at least 2 weeks to take a blood test to see if your pregnant. A urine test you take around when you expect your period.

Possible, but not likely. Be patient and wait until you actually miss your period to try one.
