(2*3)-2 = 4
(4*3)-2 = 10
(10*3)-2 = 28
So if the nth term is x, the (n + 1)th term is 3x-2

I am ashamed of myself - I have an aptitude selection center in 2 weeks time and I cannot answer this one! I'm usually good at these.
I would say, the number: 28. Reason being, except for the first two numbers, 2 and 4, all remaining numbers add up to 10 once adding their individual digits
