layzeeniss and stoopitay.
It's the beauty of a public school system tied up dealing with political correctness and social issues and worrying about how everyone feels.
Despite receiving more funding than ever the kids come out with twisted minds and reading at a third grade level. It isn't only the spelling, they can't use punctuation or put a sentence together. If they talk the way they type, there will be a new epidemic of unemployment soon, not for lack of jobs, but for lack of people with basic communication skills.
I hope that's coherent and everything is spelled correctly.

A lot of people like to blame the computer for this. Many of us have heard the stories of schools passing students through to graduation that can neither read nor write. That was way before computers. It isn't a thing of the past either. Computers have just made it more acceptable to spell bad and to use poor grammar. With all the shortcuts for kids to im their friends, or multiple friends, spell checking itself became unnecessary. that has translated back to the classroom.
Teachers are overwhelmed with this problem. Parents need to step in more when it comes to computer use for their children. We are raising a generation of illiterates!
When my daughters were old enough to go on-line with their friends I told them the one condition is that there will be no shortcuts or slang used. ( except stuff like, g2g, lol...etc.)
Kids will do anything to take their rightful place on-line. Even the punishment of correct spelling.

Over all I agree with you, but wasn't there a kinder way to ask your question? Also English is not the language of many people on this website so their spelling and grammar is not perfect and unless their question or answer is outrageously stupid or insulting, I tend to give them some slack. Finally people are not bastards because they do not use the spell checker. They are just unobservant or lazy.

Laziness, the incorrect certainty in their own correctness, haste to make questions that are just statements (wink), the idiotic idea that spelling doesn't matter on the internet. ( im in ur intrnets, im raping ur language)
The long ones have an excuse, the spellchecker craps out on me if I try and ply it with a long answer. Don't know if it does so after a body of text exceeds the character limit for questions or not.
I want a trained monkey to do my typing for me, I could write like Shakespeare with one, if I had enough time and patience.

Everyone is in a rush these days. Hitting the 'check spelling' just takes more precious time!
Then again - maybe we all have too much time on our hands if we can continue to respond to random questions on this site.. I've got to stop

People are lazy. If everyone would switch to Firefox there would be no problem. As you type spelling errors are underlined and a right click shows the correct spelling.

Often spelling mistakes happen because people are typing too fast. Why do you find this so annoying? You can still read it. People are killed in Iraq and all over the world every day, and your back is up about spelling. WHO CARES?!?!?!? Get a life.

I agree. A typo is one thing, but bad spelling is another! Can't people just memorize the appearance of a word? It's not hard.
