I believe they do it for the better. It allows you to see facts, without focusing on the experts. Let's say you're reading a study about abortion. Several experts state that abortion not only should've never been started, but has no place in the world of medicine. Honestly, what would be your opinon on their opinions if you found that several of the people who did the study were atheist, even Liberal? Maybe you don't fit into the group, I don't know, but many will judge a person based on what they are as opposed to what they're saying.

Yup, I do the same thing. Expert at what exactly? I really love the stats they come up with the plus or minus 100%...come on I could to the sci-fiction section and get better information.

most people only do that if it is against their beliefs. if it supports them then its the word of God
