Well I can't really answer this considering you aren't really comparing two skates, just the prices. I'll go right ahead and say there IS a difference. I used Mission SR for a year without any real issues even though they are very cheap. I then switched over to the Bauer Vapor x:60 the next year and oh boy did I see the difference. The Bauer's were lighter and felt like I was wearing nothing on my feet, they are also very comfortable and oppose to the Mission's which had my feet aching at the end of the game. Hope I helped THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT

If you are renting skates at ice rinks it probably means you aren't playing competitive hockey on them so go to a second hand store and see what feels good and what is in your price range. If you want to save money in the long run go to a store that sells skates and has measuring tools to measure the length and more importantly the width of your foot. Many times buying a custom pair of skates that costs $300 - $400 is going to save you money because you won't ever have to buy another pair in your life as long as you are old enough that your feet are unlikely to change size.
The width is very important because I went from a 10 - 10 1/2 to a 8 1/2 - 9 because my foot is a 4 E

well i play and i wouldn't buy skates on-line..i wouldn't trust them but if you want skates for playing...you can't be cheap you have to get the right supportive and protective skates but if you want them for just fun you can go to any skate shop or pro shop in any rink or a hockey shop anywhere and ask them for that kind of skate...the most expensive one is i think like 170.

here's what you do, go to Play-it-Again Sports. Buy a pair- the advantage is the boot is already broken in. Then have the blades changed. They are better than new skates.
