Since they seem to be a lot of answerers who want to have an honest exchange of opinion, my next question might be a serious one.

It gives you grounds to say "I told you so" later.

A person that applies to them self the label Republican but does not understand conservatism is a person that we should not engage in debate. They are loyal to a party and will follow that party regardless of the policy that originates from the party. It is beneficial to argue with a person who understands conservatism because they have ideas and offer alternatives that might be best for society. Even if you do not agree with them they are at least engaging in thought before they respond and this is good for our country.

A political debate where all participants are respectful of opposing positions is ALWAYS good fun. It broadens the mind and gets the adrenaline pumping. But it only works if everyone plays nice, and on these boards as in life, both dems and repubs are equally guilty of general nastiness.

Ah Grasshopper, you have so much to learn. Speaking as a proud Republican, I can assure there's nothing your fragile mind can teach me. If however, you begin to understand the purpose of debate, then step into my den. I've always accepted Socrates view that "Every man is my superior in one way or another". Perhaps we can gain superior knowledge together and appreciate one another's different views.

Its allways good to hear "the opponents" side. A good debate keeps you well rounded on both sides of the issues. Both have their good points and bad points, maybe you should try being a little more open-minded.

reading your questions and answers you wouldnt know what debate was if it hit you in the face. You are one sided and not worth the time. the only people that will waste their time with you are people that do the exact same thing on the other side. Debating is not for everyone and its not worth the time of someone that can do it with you.

It does good to debate with Republicans because balance is needed, and they represent a distinguishable oppposition-based group that is historically known for creating imbalance and polarization.

No fuss. No muss.

In all fairness, not all Republicans are nuts. However, the ones like Shiraz, Deuce Rider, and Matt are good for a chuckle.

Just about the same it does with having a debate with democrats, besides having a better laugh.

Having debates with left- or moderate- Republicans can be fun, because you can often find a middle ground on issues and can occasionally even agree on some of the smaller stuff.

However, don't even bother with the right-wingers. They refuse to even accept that your views exist. There's no turning them to the light side, that's for sure. Saves me breath.
