is it worth it to buy or should I just rent it first? I hear mixed reviews.

I suggest trying to see it first. I know it did well at the box office and a lot of people seem to like it, but that was one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. I guess Austin Powers and the Scary Movies (all of them were pretty funny) may have made me immune but I only occasionally grinned at this one. I went to the theater to see it and was very disappointed.
But that is me. You may just love it, that's why I say try to catch it at a friends house or something like that first. Perhaps, if you ever rent videos check it out first that way.

It's a super funny movie. If you have Anchorman in your collection, then you need Talladega, too.

Totally buy it. When I saw it at the theatre, I was laughing the whole time...at one point i was crying from laughing so hard....if you like will ferrell, you will love it.....

pretty much all the funny parts were showed during the previews. still funny though but i recommend renting it
