I have 3 children, 2 boys and a girl. The boys are 11 and 10, do you think they are too young for a cell phone? Why or why not? I found this new cell phone for kids. It allows you to block out times when they cannot talk (even times being blocked out, emergency numbers can be called) and also put in numbers they can call and those they cannot call. Thank you for helping me with this.

My oldest son is 11 and I got him a cell. I used to think that was too young but truthfully, I got it for my own selfish reasons. He's in middle school now and I get to pick up the phone and know what he's up to whenever. It's great! And the comfort of knowing he can call me whenever and for whatever is priceless! You really enjoy it.

I personally think it is too young. Why do they need it. To call their friends? They can use the regular telephone. Do they go away from home enough that they need to call you? Or are you traveling alot that they need to call you without it being long distance. If none of those reasons exist, then no they dont need a phone. Wait till they start driving, then see. I didnt give my kids one until they had their drivers license. Then the phone was used alot, as she was always lost LOL. And got into a minor ditch accident and needed to call us for help.

I don't think they're too young, ONLY if you get them the phone that gives them 3 numbers - mom, dad and emergency...though i would be afraid my kid would hit the emergency button by accident. There is no need for anything more than this however, it's just a safety device or a way for them to call you when they're done soccer practice without getting gross pay phone germs...yuck..

I think that this is too young for a cell phone. They could have them taken from them on the street but my own personal feeling about it is If they cant hear you call them they are to far away from you at that age.

I like Verizon's little kids phone. It allows you to add the numbers of shortcuts to call important people- i.e. you, a best friend, etc. but there are no keypad numbers so the kids can't dial numbers. I think it is to insure they practice safe phone etiquette!

Don't give children cell phones. That's ridiculous. They will lose them, break them, or trade the phones for cheese sandwiches at school. Seriously.
Use your head.

You should install monitoring software MaxxSpy. It is very good software, is it is cheaper too. I have many friends are using this software, and who also feel satisfied at all. I'm free trial and feel like MaxxSpy.

I think it is a great idea. It teaches them to be safe, who to call in an emergency and it also teaches responisibility. Use this as an opportunity to teach them about these issues.
