If you have no idea what to write about, give it a rest.
You need a passion about an idea to write a good book, you have no passion, don't even know WHAT you would want to write about.
People with passion and well written books have a hard time getting published, that gives you no chance at all.

it's hard to get published. Most companies only accept books submitted by agents, and it is hard to get an agent. when they take unsolicited manuscripts, usually only one person reads it (an intern of some sort sometimes) and if they don't think it's totally great and will make lots of money, they will not pass it on to the real people who publish. You see celebrities publish SUCKY books because their name will sell it; you could have the best book ever but no one knows you so they won't immediately buy your book. It costs a lot to market a book and carry it in the stores or whatever, so the publishing companies don't take chances on new talent often, but Stephen King could write a book of bad jokes and it would sell. J.K Rowling got turned down several times for Harry potter, and look how successful those books are. It is a lot of luck and timing and good luck to you! Oh or you can self publish but those books are not taken "seriously" and they are called vanity press.

Start it simple.
1) What's your book about?
Is it a fantasy, Sci-Fi, Hystorical Fiction and what time do you want it in? Think these things and then write them down.
2) Get information?
Look up stuff for your book, names, places, events, whatever you can find, these should help.
3) Oraginze your book.
You have all the info and ideas, time to put them together and form a plot. Think of a moral for your story and who the main charecter(s) is(are). Write it out in an outline or summary.
4) Start writting.
Now that you have all the stuff together you should be able to come up with a book. Start where you want and when you want and pace yourself too, don't go too fast.
5) Go over it.
Make sure it makes sense together. If your having trouble deciding if you should change something or not, ask someone for help. Have an editor that you really know like a friend or family member, someone you trust.
6) Give it out.
It's time to publish it. Hopefully the person you ask to publish your book likes it and thinks the public will like it too.
Good luck to you. I hope you write an excelent novel. ; )

I can't help you with the book, nobody really can, that has to come from you, and what you like and enjoy- write about things in your life, the people you know, and maybe "spice up" the stories a little depending on your imagination. Take a couple of friends you know and write a story about them and how you think they live their life, and make it a little more crazy.
As far as publishing, do this. Check out www.lulu.com Read it for a while and see what you think. What you do there is you upload your manuscript through a Word program, like microsoft Word or Notepad or something, and Lulu helps you make a book cover for it (full color) and they publish it on the site. It costs you nothing, and people can order it. If you want copies of your own book, you buy them- either one copy, or extras. It usually costs no more than $5-10 a book.
Look at Lulu and maybe you will be insired to write!

Either you can write a book, and get a publisher to publish it.
or...
more commonly, you can pitch your idea to a publisher, have them read a couple pages that summarize what the book is going to be about (they don't have time to read everyone's 100+ page books). If they like it, then you'll continue on to actually write it. The publisher will work with you to get it edited/proofread. You will only get a small portion of profits due to publicizing and publishing costs, and since your not a well known author which is riskier for the publishing co.
As for ideas for a book, thats for you to figure out. I'm not giving away my ideas for free and watch you reap the profits, lol.

You are not ready to write a novel. You need to learn to write first, and by that I mean take classes and read ALL THE TIME.
Then once your skills are what they should be, you can start writing. Don't even TRY to write a book, just write. THEN eventually you can try writing a novel. THEN you can try to get an agent. THEN your agent can try to get your book published.
Getting the idea now? Did you think this was easy?
P.S. As the first answerer said, if you don't know what to write about, you have no business trying to write a book.

Start a journal of your thoughts and those of friends. Sometimes you may encounter a situation or engage in a conversation or overhear a conversation. Whenever something catches your attention, record it. This means you will need a small writing pad and pen or pencil; or you may use electronic media. One time I witnessed children playing "Ole Mama' and heard one of them use the expression 'roast you like conch'. That grabbed my attention because of the simile and I told my Dad. He and I got a chance to talk about food and its preparation. Another time someone defined a miser as one who mises. I am still laughing! Cut out ideas from newspapers and magazines- pictures of the appearance of characters, descriptions of events etc. Once you have established theme, plot, suspense, character and setting, you are ready to get going. The first fifty words are critical so write and rewrite until you want to know what is next. A book has to seize the readers and keep them in a vise grip until the end. Then it keeps them looking forward to the next book while they reread the present one.Ideas are everywhere. Use them. Join a writer's group or you can hire a 'ghost' writer. I hope this has helped you in your journey to writing fame.

It's your story and only you can write it. Write about whatever you want, then get an agent and they'll find a publisher.

Writing a book takes a great deal of discipline. If you don't have any ideas for a novel, you could try to write a memoir based on your life experiences. Or, if you like children's books you could write one of those.
