From a reliability standpoint Toyota, with Honda coming in a close second. For fuel economy Toyota still tops Honda on a model for model basis. Honda does have higher resale value, mainly because Toyota is a much bigger player in the fleet/rental business and there for has more cars on the used market.

Best at what?
Speed? Comfort? Reliability? Cost? Design?
One car doesn't fit all those categories, and what one person likes, another may not. It's all about personal opinions.

My personal favorite is the Toyota Camry. It's very reliable.
