All the systems have their good points and their bad points.
PS3: Aimed more towards hard-core gamers
Pros: Excellent graphics, Blu-Ray player, probably the best graphics of the three.
Cons: Cost, at 150% the cost of the Xbo 360 and 240% the cost of the Wii this is a big factor, and that's just retail. Availability, eBay has sagged down to around $800.00 + shipping for the premium edition, trying to get it retail is near to impossible. Rumored overheating and lockup, I have seen the PS3 in the store lock up playing a demo, not unheard of in other consoles but lending creedance to some reports.
Wii: More family/fun/party oriented, but not without it's selection of "gamers games"
Pros: Cost, cheapest of the three next gens. New controller tech, immersion is the name of the Wii and some of the Wii only titles take expert advantage of this new tech.
Cons: Graphics, worst of the three but this isn't their aim, still enjoyable. Availability, Like the PS3, mostly sold out in stores, eBay has it going for $400.00 or less.
Xbox 360: More of a gamers console with a focus on graphics.
Pros: Available, haven't seen this sold out in a store I've been to recently. Titles, since it has been out for a year it has more next-gen titles than it's competitiors.
Cons: Price, despite being out for a year now and in a heated battle for the next-gen wars MS is still charging $300 and $400 dollars for the Basic and Premium editions, even a $50 price break would help sales tremendously.
All in all I'd say your choice should depend on what you want, and what you can get. All three systems have a library of backwards compatible games with PS3's PS2 and PS1 backwards compatibility, the previous gen XBOX, and Nintendo making port overs for NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and one other console (can't remember at the moment). I got a Wii but I was on a budget. The Xbox 360 was tempting, especially since I'm a SW Engineer, but the family friendliness of the Wii won out.
Hope this helps.

The PS3 supposedly has the best graphics but is horribly overprised and definately not worth the asking price so soon after the launch. Especially since about the only place you'll find it is on EBay with horrible markups.
The Wii is a decent balance between price and graphics from what I've found, not to mention the new motion sensor remote thing and innovative games in true Nintendo fashion.
The Xbox 360 has of course been out a year so they've had time to fine-tune the system, work out the bugs, and has the larger game selection currently of the three.
I'd buy: Xbox 360, Wii, PS3 (in order of preference)

I myself would wait for the systems to show up in the stores again. Do not buy the PS3 because the technology is new and might mess up in the time to come. Plus even if you don't care about that the chance on finding one any time soon is small. I think you should go for a Xbox360 because it already had many good games out such as Gears of War, Call of Duty 2,3, and Oblivion and many many more. Plus if you already have a xbox and a connection to the net you can update your xbox360 to play the xbox games. And if you have enough money you can go for Xbox360 and the Wii. Only over the PS3 price by about what 100$...two systems are better then one.

Get the Xbox 360 and tide yourself over until the PS3 becomes less expensive. Don't waste your money on eBay PS3s for $1000+ (or Wii's for that matter).
The PS3 is potentially the best of the three in terms of graphics.

wii = crappy wii is a childish system meant for 9 year olds and has weak sensing of the controller in my opinion
PS3 has way too many bugs as of the moment and is too expensive
xbox 360 is a rip off for live version and not all the games are backward compadable
but those are the bad parts of them i own an xbox 360 and i love it so if you are starting from scratch on a system i would recomment PS3 when its all fixed or xbox 360 if your a lil impatient, wii is a n embarassment just like DS was

Graphics depend on the game and the programing not the console you use. I would say 360 is the best choice. Even thou pure power is better in the ps3. 360 is more friendly to those who wright games for it. Which means the games for 360 will push the system more. I will also give you 2 more reasons for 360 Halo3 and Halo wars.

I am told the Wii is the best system out there at the moment, it is also more of a family system.
PS3s are nice but according to some yahoo articles, the Wii is the most favored.
I would recommend waiting on buying one though as they go for $455 a pop on E-bay and are mostly sold out in stores. If you happen to snag one in the store, I wouldn't hesitate.

I would get the Playstation 3, mainly because it has the better graphic but you should wait until like the spring so that the big will be worked out.
