Well my children go to DayCare and they would have a fit if I didnt take my children to the doctor everytime they sniffle. Their doctor sees me every two weeks now and always sends me home with medicine...

Our doctor said the same thing- if you give them cough medicine, they won't cough all that junk up like they need to to get rid of it... so that's why they tell you not to give them anything. Babies need to cough it all out. All you can give him is Infant Tylenol for fevers. My son (and so do we) have a cold right now as well... it stinks yes, but you will only do them bad by giving them medicine.... try a vaporizer or humidifier in the baby's room. They have some where you can put vick's in it... Hot steamy showers running while baby sits in carrier or swing or something in the bathroom while the shower is going will also help clear them out. Just keep the baby's nose clean with the suction bulb- if his nose gets too dry, you can use vasoline on the outside of the nose.

Goodluck, hope he feels better soon!

Wow, no meds. I think I would go get a second opinion. My daughter was sick when she was that age, and the doctor gave me some meds for her, and always has. It is really hard to tell you what you can give a baby otc. That's why you should see the doctor...most stuff otc you have to be at least 2. Make sure you keep the little guys nose cleaned out with a syringe and maybe squirt some saline drops in his nose, just a couple on each side. Generally is the mucus is green in color he has infection. As for the cough, there really isn't a whole lot you can do, you need a cough suppresent.

I agree with the other comments about avoiding medicine but using saline drops and the room vaporizer. In addition to preventing his body from doing what it needs to do with the coughing etc., there is a potential for allergies to the medications etc and so that is the other reason to avoid them. The risk of an allergy is much greater at 8 months than it is at 2 years. Another suggestion - you can also prop up one end of the mattress slightly (the end where his head is) to help him breathe more easily during the night.

I also want to add that my son is now on cold #3 of his life, and his first was also at 8 months. It seemed to last forever and made him (and us!) very miserable. His second cold was not as bad but still seemed to last longer than for adults. Now on his 3rd cold, it's much more mild. Their immune system's are brand new at their task of fighting viruses, and so it usually takes longer for the body to clear itself the first couple of times. It's painful to see them sick, but it will get better soon!

Keep a vaporizer going in the room so the air won't be so dry. You can use Vick's vapor rub on his chest and put a dab under each nostril. that's about it unless the doctor tells you different. You might try calling the local emergency room and ask one of the nurses.

truthfully. If he will take it chilly that's staggering ... no would desire to be concerned approximately warming it on the pass. My son replaced into breast fed and now's formula fed. He did no longer have issues switching from heat milk to chilly formula.
